Get Ready for our Spring Connection Gathering

Originally published 4/16/23. Updated 3/21/24 for our 2024 Spring Connection Gathering

I've never met anyone who didn't have anxiety about attending an event that involves connecting or networking with strangers.

And yet, some of our greatest relationships come when we take a chance and step out of our comfort zone. For the upcoming Spring Connection Gathering, we hope to create an inclusive environment where you feel empowered to step out of your comfort zone rather than reluctant. But sometimes, it helps to do a little preparation yourself!

I came across a blog commentary on an HBR article by Dorie Clark - an author I've followed for a few years. Although the blog is targeted to introverts, I thought the content helpful for everyone attending our upcoming Connection Gathering. I thought I'd share the tips with some of my own thoughts. Check out the full blog post here.

Four Tips from this blog post: Dorie Clark About Networking for Introverts:

Tip #1 Make them Come to You
Consider volunteering to be a table facilitator at our upcoming Connection Gathering. You’ll have structure and tools to support meaningful connections with others.

Tip #2 Bring a Friend
I’m sure some of you are planning on attending with a friend. If this is the case, consider agreeing to make space to invite others into your conversation or to have permission to separate and move to other conversations.

Tip #3 Have a Few Opening Lines Ready
Think about why you're attending the Connection Gathering and develop questions that will help you reach that goal.

Tip #4 Research in Advance
Wondering who might be attending? Post something on our SVWL Community LinkedIn Group. I’m also happy to try and answer any questions you might have.

Hope to see you in April!

Wendy
